VOCAL COACHING and WORKSHOPS

Regardless if as a soloist, member of an ensemble or as part of a band, the vocalist is the centerpiece of any stage performance where the human voice is involved. Generally, a performance or presentation is judged by the quality and skill of the person at center stage, and that person usually is a vocalist of some sort, be it a singer, rapper, or moderator. Having the proper technique and the ability to effectively communicate are critical skills needed by everyone who takes public performance seriously, and are necessary to avoid fatigue and serious injury to the voice.

We provide coaching, studio consulting services and workshops for singers and other “vocal performers” (rappers, public speakers, moderators, etc.) who want to further enhance their performance skills. Our coaching services are available to individuals and groups. In our coaching sessions and workshops we focus on:

+ the “zen” of live performance; philosophy, social aspects, personal behavior in relation to the audience

+ breathing, warm-up techniques, and general vocal strength exercises

+ microphone technique, including special basic techniques for Beatbox and Jazz Improvisation (Scatting, Vocal FX / “McFerrin-ism”)

+ performance tips and tricks: body language analysis, effective audience communication and “interactive” performance, working together with other vocalists / bands / ensembles, dealing with difficult performance conditions (hostile crowds, smoke-filled rooms, empty venues, etc.)

Charles Simmons (owner and managing director of CHASIM Music & Media Design) is a highly skilled vocal coach with years of experience as a live performer and recording artist. He has shared the stage with many national and international artists such as Mary J. Blige, Shaggy, Xavier Naidoo, Sascha, Glashaus, Sabrina Setlur, iO (ex Guano Apes) and many more.

Currently Charles is an instructor at the reknowned Popakademie in Mannheim, and at the Modern Music School in Stuttgart.
